My name is Maria and I am 19 years old.

I started playing with a ball at the age of 3, but I started in a club at the age of 12. As far back as I can remember, football has always been a passion for me. While the other girls my age were having fun with each other, I was playing in the schoolyard with boys.

I started at the lowest level: recreational, then I evolved into A, AA, AAA and in various Futsal teams such as Sporting Montreal and Stark FC. I am currently with the PLSQ team of CSMRO and Patriotes of l’UQTR.

I was lucky to have coaches who were able to make me grow in this sport and guide me to the level I am at now.

Over the years, I have understood that football is not just a sport, it is much more than that. Football taught me important values such as team spirit, mutual support, self-confidence and determination. I was also able to develop my best friendships there with girls who share the same interests as me. Football has also allowed me to be disciplined in all spheres of my life. I am very competitive, but what I find particularly important is the effort and hard work behind success. I hope to see football grow in Canada so that every young girl can benefit from what this sport has given me.

I'm a 10 year old Canadian soccer girl with big dreams
